Online Driver Improvement Course



Our mission is to help you level up by improving your driving record and keep Virginia's roads and people safe. We know how important it is for you to be able drive to work, pick up your children, go on vacation, save money on your car insurance, and do the things you like to do when you are ready.

DMV gives one safe driving point each year without any violations or suspensions. Demerit points are assigned when convicted of a traffic violation. Points vary upon the violation. Negative points remain on driving records for two years.


The driver improvement course can only be taken once every two years to receive up to five safe driving points. You might be interested in the course because:


1. It was required by DMV. *see additional information.

2. It was court ordered by a judge in order to lessen/dismiss a charge and/or fines.

3. You decided to take the course voluntarily to help decrease insurance premiums or improve your driving record.


Regardless of the reason, taking the course is a good start to improving your driving record.


ADDITIONAL INFORMATION


1. If DMV is requiring the course, the eight-hour course must be taken and completed within 90 days or by their deadline. If it is not completed, DMV will suspend your driving privilege until this requirement is complete.

hOW IT WORKS



1. After registering for the online course, a confirmation will be emailed to you within 24 – 48 hours. It will include a link. The link will direct you to the course. You may exit the course and return where you left off. The link is also to be used for re-entry.


2. The course is 100% online. It can be taken at your leisure. After completion, the program will grade and reveal the test results.


3. Once the course is successfully completed, the course completion certificate (DMV Form DIC 552B) will be emailed to you. The DIC 552B student completion certificate is a DMV-developed manual process so the certificate will be emailed to you within 24 to 48 hours of your course completion and payment.


If the exam is failed, it can be repeated until it is successfully completed. Use the link to review any session and to re-take the exam.
